RIS bake sale raises $2,000 for Haiyan families in Philippines
Students and teachers here at Rainbow International School are fortunate to have all the necessities we need not only to learn, but also to live. However, not all students and families of the world can be so lucky. We feel it is important to educate our students on the realities of life found around the globe. We want our students to become compassionate global participants and to understand the
importance of helping those in need.
As you will be aware, the worst storm ever to hit land was recorded
in the Philippines late last week. Many of the islands in the country
were very badly hit, but the worst damage appears to be caused on the
islands of Leyte and Cebu.
At the time of writing, over 10,000 people have lost their lives and
hundreds of thousands have been made homeless. Survivors are without
shelter, food, clean water, medical supplies and other essentials of
life, and the existing emergency services are encountering huge problems
reaching the people in need because of the damage.
As usual, RIS Students, Teachers and Parents baked, sold and raised 2,000,000 KRW for the families who survived Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. All profits raised will go Philippines Embassy to Korea.
We thank all teachers, parents and students for their help and caring at this time.
Police Officers visited our School
On Friday, November 29, 2013 Mr.Kim Sung Pil, Chief Inspector of Yangjae Police Department and his team of Police Officers, spent their evening visiting our school. Mr.Esref Saglam, the Founder of RIS and Mr.Emin Huseynov, the Principal of RIS welcomed the guests.
After having a dinner together, the principal of Rainbow International School, Emin Huseynov briefed the
attendees on the school’s education system.
He noted that the entire
instruction at the school is offered through iPad and MacBook use.
Huseynov further said they equally attach significance to moral
education too alongside technology.
We enjoyed to have Police Officers in our school.
Singapore Math Training Program
On Wednesday and Thursday, November 27th and 28th, Our Homeroom Teachers, Math Specialist Teachers and Parents participated in a Singapore Mathematics Training Workshop with Dr. Yeap Ban Har.
Singapore Math is a method in which students learn math by drawing
pictures and doing problems mentally, rather than through tables and
memorization. The curriculum uses visual tools to help children learn
abstract concepts like multiplication, division and even simple algebra,
all while still in elementary school.
Singapore Math's
emphasis on the development of students' intellectual competencies is
consistent with the importance placed on nurturing knowledge workers and
people who can participate fully in an increasingly technological
world. Textbooks based on Singapore Math have been adopted in many
countries around the world. As of this year, there is even a Standards
Edition of a K-8 textbook series based on Singapore Math.
