Singapore Math Training Workshop

RIS have adopted Singapore Math Program based on Singapore`s National Math System. Teachers and Parents are happy and mention that Singapore Math helps children develop a deeper understanding of numbers and math concepts than they gain other math programs. Singapore Math is a very detailed step-by-step process that we teach the students. And through that process they get to see how math works from a much wider perspective. They see the complex operation, and they see how to break it apart into simpler terms and put it all back together again.

There will be a Singapore Math Training Workshop by a consultant from Singapore for teachers and parents on Wednesday and Thursday, November 27 and 28, 2013 at RIS.

All of our parents are invited to join us in this workshop.

Danger in Dessert?

A new study reveals the toxic effects of sugar

We all know that too much sugar isn’t good for you. But did we know it could be toxic? A team of researchers at the University of Utah used mice to conduct a study on the negative effects of sugar. They found it could have serious effects on people’s health.

Sugar Symptoms

During the 58-week-long study, mice were fed a diet containing 25% more sugar. This percentage is equivalent to a healthy human diet along with three cans of soda daily. The team found that these mice were twice as likely to die as mice fed a similar diet without the sugar. Though the mice did not show signs of obesity or high blood pressure, male mice were 26% less territorial and produced 25% fewer offspring than the other mice.

Typhoon in the Philippines

A powerful tropical storm in the Philippines leaves thousands dead

The Philippines is reeling from a massive typhoon that hit its eastern seaboard on Friday. The powerful storm leveled nearly everything in its path and has left a possible death toll of 10,000. Officials fear the number will rise even higher than that. Supertyphoon Haiyan, called Yolanda in the Philippines, is the strongest recorded storm to make landfall anywhere on earth. “The devastation is… I don’t have words for it,” said Philippines Interior Secretary Mar Roxas. “It’s really horrific. It’s a great human tragedy.”

On behalf of Rainbow International School`s Staff, Parents and Students, we would like to express our deepest condolences and sympathy for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Natural disasters like these call for great relief efforts and global responsibility.

The R.I.S. community would like to help the victims of the typhoon and assist them in overcoming this ordeal.  We are joining together to gather donations as well as organize a school-wide fundraiser to aid in restoration efforts.

Our thoughts are with all of Philippines People in this time of need.

Field Trip to National Museum!

Yesterday Grades 2, 3 and 5 Students had the Field Trip to The National Museum in Seoul. 

It was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn Korean culture and see the significance of Korea`s Cultural assets in the world.

Students learned the story of the Golden Crown and tried to make their own crown.

This Trip meant a lot of learning experiences to our Students!

Spirit Week 2013!

Student council is holding the spirit week from October 28th to November 1st. Spirit week is to get students enthused and supportive of the school. The week also serves to get students involved and united on a common goal of promoting the school spirit. During this week students are encouraged to dress-up to the theme and express their distinct individuality. We will be looking for best-dressers so participate in this fun-filled week!
