Parent Orientation 2013 was Success!

Rainbow International School Staff provided orientation for parents and families of RIS students. It was held in the RIS in the auditorium from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th, and several teachers spoke to parents and families about some programs important to RIS this year.
Mr.Emin Huseynov, the principal of the RIS presented parents about school history and new changes in School Year 2013-2014. He also was proud to introduce RIS` new website, www.rischool.org and explained the role of technology in our school.
Then Ms.Allen, the Curriculum Coordinator, talked about new implemented programs and expectations of new academic year.
Ms. Julia, the grade 3 homeroom teacher and IPC Coordinator, talked about the elementary school curriculum called International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The middle school English language arts teacher and IMYC Coordinator, Ms. Alison explained the structure of the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).
Ms. Wendy, the grade 5 homeroom teacher, talked about assessment procedures and policies at RIS, and introduced new grading scale and Standards Based Reporting. Lastly, Ms. Ami, Middle School ESL Teacher and Special Educator talked about the special education at RIS.
Also, as you may recall from last year, teachers are very interested in strengthening the relationship between students, teachers and parents via our home visit program. Anytime you would like to invite some teachers into your home to get to know you and your student in your home environment, we'd love to come! We sincerely believe that the home visit program helps teachers and students facilitate a more meaningful learning experience.
Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend and participate in Saturday's discussion. All of the topics discussed Saturday are outlined in the RIS Parents' Handbook. Please email or call any teacher anytime you'd like to talk about the details of your student's experience at RIS!
